Quick Look: Muchuu by Pllunderlines

Released on the Brazilian-focused collective Vaporwave Tapes Brasil, Pllunderlines’ Muchuu is a collection of very minimal yet driving loops that make up a short but memorable EP. The loops used within it each have a distinct, smoothly textured synth lined up at the front to make the listening experience relaxing, with sharper stings in the background and simpler percussion to keep everything moving along in a smooth flow. Although some tracks feature sections where the cutting apart of the material is more noticeable, the effect of such is always minimized so as to balance an engaging sort with the chill atmosphere that it provides.

By being a shorter release as well, there’s much more to appreciate when looking at the individual strengths of each track. From the dreamy atmosphere of “Dream of U”, to the perfectly placed and danceable cuts that line “Cucucmber”, to the oddly entrancing backing vocals that flit about throughout the run of “Bebeh Tronicz,” each piece brings something unique to the table. An exceedingly quick listen, and a worthwhile one at that.
